SALE SHARKS HAVE lodged a complaint against one of their own players after team information was passed to Bristol before their Aviva Premiership clash on New Year’s Day.
It is understood that Tom Arscott, the Sale winger, is under investigation and has been reported to the Rugby Football Union for allegedly leaking information to the opposition.
The 29-year-old, who previously played for Bristol, has yet to be officially named as the player at the centre of the investigation but it has been reported he passed on details of on-field calls and players to a member of the Bristol squad on the eve of the game.
Arscott didn’t feature in the Premiership fixture at the AJ Bell Stadium while his brother, Luke — the Bristol full-back — was an unused replacement.
In a statement released yesterday, Bristol have categorically denied any wrongdoing.
“Bristol Rugby has been made aware of a complaint from Sale Sharks, which is now being investigated by the RFU,” the club said.
“The Club are absolutely confident of no wrongdoing in this matter and will fully co-operate with the investigation. We will make no further comment at this time.”
After trailing 15-0, relegation-threatened Bristol completed an incredible turnaround to boost their chances of avoiding the drop with a 24-23 away win.
The RFU yesterday confirmed they are aware of the allegations.
“The RFU are investigating a complaint made by Sale Sharks in relation to the passing of information to the opposition team ahead of the match against Bristol earlier this month.”

Always loved watching him play snooker, but my god I’m sick of listening to him. Just retire and be done with it, I really think 99 percent of snooker fans won’t miss him
@Raymond Kelly: shows you aren’t a snooker fan
@Raymond Kelly: i honestly think that sometimes he gets bored and does and says things just for the sake of it. Can be very tiresome to listen to.
He is such a brilliant snooker player, one of the best ever, but also a massive knob head too
Delighted for Wilson who is a nice guy, The balls didn’t run for Ronnie but that happens. He is however the best of all time
@Terry O Sullivan: think he could easily have set himself apart as the greatest of all time but chose to be edgy instead
Think he’s a natural elite achiever. In snooker this is translating to a great player and pure frustration, coming out in many ways. Should have spent a few bob on a sports psychologist a few years ago, and kept seen them
