TWO MEMBERS OF Dublin club Cuala’s Leinster club hurling winning squad are set to link up with the Derry senior panel this season.
Cuala are currently gearing up for their All-Ireland club semi-final battle with Derry champions Slaughtneil on 25 February at the Athletic Grounds.
But once their club commitments end, the Waldron brothers – Cian and Naoise – will be free to link up with the Oak Leaf County setup.
The addition of the pair, who are originally from the St Lachtain’s club in Kilkenny, has been reported by the Derry Now website. Their parents now reside in Derry with their mother originally from Loup.
Cuala enjoyed a brilliant 2016 campaign when they won the Dublin senior final in October with a victory over Kilmacud Crokes.
They went on to progress through Leinster with wins over Laois club Borris-in-Ossory/Kilcotton, Carlow’s St Mullins and in the decider, Kilkenny’s O’Loughlin Gaels.
Cian lined out at wing-forward on the team managed by Galway’s Mattie Kenny with Naoise a member of the panel.
Cuala are bidding next month to become the first Dublin side to reach the All-Ireland senior club hurling final.
