ANTHONY PETTIS WON’T be getting his hands on a UFC belt this weekend in Toronto.
Pettis is due to take on Max Holloway tomorrow night in an interim featherweight title bout, which will form the main event at UFC 206.
However, a spanner was thrown in the works at today’s official weigh-ins. Holloway came in right on the mark at 145lbs, but Pettis could only manage to make 148lbs.
Pettis can subsequently no longer win the belt, but UFC president Dana White has confirmed that Holloway will be crowned interim champion should he emerge victorious.
Pettis made weight at 146lbs for his featherweight debut against Charles Oliveira. Fighters can avail of a one-pound allowance in non-title bouts.
The winner of the interim featherweight title bout is expected to face Jose Aldo next. Aldo was reinstalled as reigning featherweight champion a fortnight ago after Conor McGregor was stripped of the title.
