Shamrock Rovers confirm their head coach for next season

Stephen Bradley returns on a permanent basis having held the position as caretaker for the second half of last term.

SHAMROCK ROVERS HAVE announced Stephen Bradley as their head coach for next season.

The 31-year-old took over on a caretaker basis after Pat Fenlon’s departure in July with Glen Cronin, Stephen McPhail and Damien Duff named as coaches.

Sami Ristila then came on board the following month as Bradley didn’t possess the Uefa Pro Licence required by FAI rules to manage the club on a permanent basis.

The Hoops finished fourth in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and former midfielder Bradley, who will sit his Pro Licence with the FAI over an 18-month period starting next month, suggested in his programme notes at the end of the season that it would be his last involvement with the first team.

However, the club has released a statement this afternoon to confirm that he will be in charge at the start of the 2017 campaign.

“I am very honoured to accept the position of head coach at Shamrock Rovers FC,” said Bradley.

“We have a huge amount of work to do but preparations for next season are already well under way and we will work night and day to make sure the team is ready to compete for honours come March.”

Hoops sporting director Stephen McPhail added: “I am delighted to announce Stephen Bradley as the new Head Coach of Shamrock Rovers FC.

Last season Stephen took on the role of interim manager. During his period in charge I witnessed first-hand his ability operating in a difficult and challenging environment.

In my opinion, he is one of the best young coaches that I’ve seen during my time in football and he is absolutely the right man to lead the first team forward at this point in time.”

Surely the majority of Celtic Supporters born and raised in Scotland would support Scotland? Irish connection aside, they are a Scottish club so logic would suggest they’ll support their National side.

None of the stadiums are big enough, apart from the rugby one. I doubt the Scottish FA want to be knocking on their door when they have a bigger stadium in a city which cares more about football.

Why not? They’ve played Internationals in Easter Road before. Murrayfield is a nicer ground than any other in Scotland. It’s not a secret that the SFA will be paying Celtic and Sevco handsomely for use of the grounds, which they probably wouldn’t have had to do at Murrayfield. The chances of Celtic Park being filled are near enough 0 anyway.

Cares more about football? Tell that to any Hibs, Hearts or Aberdeen fan and they’ll tell you that’s rubbish. Supporting Celtic and “The” Rangers is the easy option in Scotland, just because they’ve more fans doesn’t mean Glasgow cares more about football.
