THE RYDER CUP has finally succumbed to the weather after a rain soaked morning’s play was suspended until 5pm this afternoon.
Appalling conditions at Celtic Manor didn’t stop this morning’s four balls getting underway but the weather eventually got the better of the golfers on the Welsh course and play was suspended just before 10am.
Before proceedings were brought to a halt Europe had made a bright start. Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer are currently two up against Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson after five rounds.
Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell are one up on Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar after four rounds. Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher are one up against Steve Stricker, Tiger Woods and Luke Donald after three rounds.
But the USA have hit back in the final morning pairings with Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton currently two up against Ireland’s own Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald after two rounds.
Overall it’s been a good start for Europe and more bad news for the USA in that their waterproofs are ill-equipped for the Welsh weather. Their jackets are retaining too much water, forcing the PGA of America into an embarrassing switch as reported by The Guardian.
