CHRIS ASHTON COULD be hit with a 12-week ban after being at the centre of controversy in the Aviva Premiership over the weekend.
The Saracens wing has been charged for allegedly biting opposing prop Alex Waller twice during his side’s 27-12 home win over Northampton Saints on Saturday.
Ashton will appear before an RFU disciplinary panel in London tomorrow evening, charged with acts contrary to good sportsmanship.
“Ashton was cited for two incidents during the weekend’s Aviva Premiership Rugby match between Saracens and Northampton Saints,” read a statement from the RFU.
“The Saracens winger is alleged to have bitten Alex Waller of Northampton Saints on two separate occasions. The first occurred in the 24th minute of the match and the second incident, one minute later.”
The low-entry point for such a suspension is 12 weeks, increasing to 24 weeks at the high end. Ashton was suspended for 10 weeks — the ban was reduced from 12 — last season for making contact with the eye area of Ulster’s Luke Marshall during a European Champions Cup match.
