DUNDALK ARE FACING a major fixture headache during the second half of the season after their league clash with Cork City was postponed due to international call-ups.
The FAI have this evening confirmed next Friday’s game at Oriel Park will be rescheduled due to the inclusion of Cork duo Sean Maguire and Kevin O’Connor in the Ireland U21 squad.
Noel King’s side are due to face Slovenia in a European Championship qualifier on the same night, leaving league organisers with no choice but to postpone until a later date.
It now means Dundalk, who this morning learned their Europa League group stage opposition, face a backlog of fixtures over the coming weeks.
After tonight, Stephen Kenny’s men still have 12 league games, at least one FAI Cup tie and those six European matches remaining in their season.
With 12 league, six European and at least one FAI Cup game remaining in their season,
Meanwhile, Cork’s visit to Finn Harps on 6 September has also been postponed with RTÉ now showing the Dublin derby between Shamrock Rovers and St Pat’s instead of Dundalk-Cork.
The national broadcaster will also have live coverage of the FAI Cup quarter-final between Shamrock Rovers and Cork City on Friday 9 September.

Im a City fan and can admit this is aloud of rubbish.
Why exactly is it called off? Could,nt City just play 2 other players instead, its a squad game now.
What if 2 lads were injured? Would game be called off then? Can,t get my head around it. Has anyone an explanation….
Maguire and O Connor for City are both in U-21 squad, this allows for calling off of the game. It’s a pity but both those guys are guaranteed starters for City so not real surprise
Who calls it off? The clubs or the fai? If Magure and O,Connor were injured would it be called off as well? Probably stupid questions but can,t seem to get any answers
B0ll0x u21 call ups shouldn’t mean the biggest teams in the league can’t play each other
At Least 6 European matches.
