ANDY MCENTEE HAS tonight been appointed as the new Meath senior football manager for a three-year term.
The announcement had been expected and it was confirmed tonight that this year’s All-Ireland club winning manager will take over in the Royal county.
Meath native McEntee guided Dublin club Ballyboden St-Enda’s to glory on St Patrick’s Day last against Mayo’s Castlebar Mitchels in Croke Park.
He will be joined by his brother Gerry McEntee as a selector along with Donal Curtis and Finian Murtagh in his backroom team.
McEntee will continue to take charge of Ballyboden St-Enda’s for the remainder of their 2016 Dublin senior campaign.
He guided the club to the county title last year after a final win over St Vincent’s before they saw off Portlaoise in the Leinster decider.
McEntee was previously in charge of the Meath minor side and was at the helm when they reached the 2012 All-Ireland final, losing out to Dublin.
He was regarded as a favourite for the job when Mick O’Dowd called time on his four-year tenure after Meath’s All-Ireland qualifier loss to Derry in July.
His older brother Gerry was a celebrated Meath footballer as he won All-Ireland senior medals in 1987 and 1988 along with an Allstar award in 1987.
He has achieved managerial success with St Brigid’s in steering them to Dublin county senior titles in 2003 and 2011, along with the Leinster club crown in 2003.
