IT’S 14 MONTHS SINCE he debuted for the club, but New York City FC fans are finally starting to feel like they’re getting the best out of Frank Lampard.
Having failed to deliver in his first season in MLS, Lampard has recently been producing the type of performances and contributions one would expect of a player of his experience.
Last night, the former Chelsea midfielder netted a hat-trick for NYC in a 5-1 win against Colorado Rapids, who had ex-Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard between the posts and Irish international Kevin Doyle up front.
The win keeps Patrick Vieira’s side at the top of the Eastern Conference — four points clear of the Red Bulls, their New York rivals — with 11 games still remaining in the regular season.
Although Lampard has missed much of the current season due to injury problems, the 38-year-old has now scored eight times in 11 appearances. His hat-trick was New York City’s first since the club was established last year.
