SLIGO ROVERS HAVE completed the signing of Daniel Kearns as the winger returns to the League of Ireland following four-year spell in England.
The former Republic of Ireland underage international – who also represented Northern Ireland at U17 level – has signed an 18-month contract with the Bit O’Red.
Kearns, 24, moves to the Showgrounds from Glenavon, where he spent nine months following his release from Carlisle United in September 2015.
He scored five goals in 18 appearances for the NIFL Premiership side and will bolster Dave Roberston’s squad for the second-half of the current campaign.
“I am over the moon to secure the signing of Daniel, he is an exciting footballer,” the Sligo manager said.
“He is an excellent attacking player and an exciting one to be working with. He’s a player that I have been chasing to sign since I got here and it is magnificent to have secured him.”
Kearns attracted the attention of several English clubs in 2011 after impressing for Dundalk and signed for Peterborough United.
He made 32 appearances for the Posh during his stay at the club while also spending time on loan at York City, Rotherham United and Chesterfield.
Sligo are currently eighth in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and face St Pat’s on Saturday evening.

Ferguson has had a woeful first half hour. He’s a lot better than he’s showing.
@Gearóid MacEachaidh: Good man Ferguson. Does nothing right for an hour then gets a goal. Come on lads!
@Gearóid MacEachaidh: I was thinking same. He was poor and rightfully hooked but took the goal very well.
Just an off day but he has quality.
