TRIBUTES HAVE BEEN paid today after the passing of former Cork All-Ireland hurling winner John Horgan.
Horgan was involved in four Liam MacCarthy Cup wins with Cork, firstly in 1970 and then as part of the three-in-a-row Rebel side from 1976 to 1978.
The defender also won All-Ireland medals with Cork at minor (1967) and U21 (1970 & 1971) level, along with enjoying three National League triumphs.
With his club Blackrock, he won All-Ireland medals in 1971, 1973 and 1978. In addition Horgan claimed Allstar awards in 1974, 1977 and 1978.

That Gaa Gold show on tg4 a number of years ago was a great education, loved watching the likes of Horgan bursting out of defence with the blonde locks flowing, he was like something out of Celtic mythology!
Exactly how I remembered him, with that blonde head of hair r.i.p
R.I.P
Watched him as a kid with my Dad in the 70s.. We always called him Blondie Hogg…
Great player on the pitch, and a gentleman off it… Suffered a terrible disease. Suffering over now…
Rest In Peace – Rebel Legend…
Remember Horgan from the 3 in a row team. A great player. Condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.
Great player from a great generation of cork hurlers
Rip blondie
Up there with the greats
Magnificent player great to watch in full flow. RIP.
R.I.P Hoggie.
A superb minor hurler for Passage and Cork from a golden era in Cork hurling who hurled then at centre back. The standard of hurling in Cork back then was top class at club as well as county level. John was a modest guy who never let success make him feel above the ordinary people of Cork. I heard he was ill only last Monday night and on behalf of my wife Joy & myself & family send our deepest sympathy. On behalf of Gaels in Somerset, England, our thoughts prayers to his family & friends.
Very sad to hear this..a true CORK hurling legend..rip..
What a tenacious player and no task to great Or small for him. What a talent he simply inspired by his leadership.
