IRISH YOUNGSTER DANIEL CLEARY has left Liverpool, saying it was ‘time to move on’.
The 20-year-old Dubliner was on the fringes of the first-team during Brendan Rodgers’ time in charge but has found his chances limited since Jurgen Klopp arrived as manager.
Rodgers seemed to have plenty of time for the underage international, predicting last year that Cleary would have ‘a very good career in the game’.
“He is very committed”, Rodgers said.
I have seen developments in my time, as a young player, I’ve seen him improve.”
In September 2015, the defender was named on the Liverpool bench for the club’s Europa League tie in Bordeaux alongside the likes of Conor Randall, Pedro Chirivella and Cameron Brannagan.
But while Klopp has given those three players plenty of first-team opportunities this term, Cleary hasn’t been so fortunate.
He took to social media to share the news of his departure and said:
Been a crazy day for me saying goodbye to everyone at the club that I’ve been at 5 years made some friends for life in the time I’ve been here but it’s time to move on and see where my journey takes me.”
Cleary had been a part of the Liverpool academy since he was 11 years old but leaves Anfield having never made a senior appearance.
