CLARE HAVE BEEN dealt a big blow ahead of the start of the Allianz National Hurling League with the news that Tony Kelly will miss the next eight weeks with an ankle injury.
A spokesman for Clare told The42 this morning that the former Hurler and Young Hurler of the year picked up the knock in training last week.
He said:
Tony will be out for up to 8 weeks due an ankle ligament picked up in training last week. A scan confirmed the injury yesterday.”
Kelly came on as a second half substitute during Clare’s victory over Limerick in the Munster Senior Hurling League Final 11 days ago and had been expected to feature when Clare take on Offaly in their opening Division 1B fixture on 14 February.
However, it’s now expected that the 22-year-old won’t feature until the quarter-final stage of the league at the earliest.
