FORMER LEAGUE OF Ireland top-scorer Patrick Hoban has secured a loan move to Stevenage after finding first-team opportunities hard to come by at Oxford.
The striker moves to the League Two club, who were managed by Man United legend Teddy Sheringham until his sacking this afternoon, on a one-month deal.
Hoban joined Oxford a little over a year ago after attracting attention during two prolific seasons for Dundalk. However, he suffered an injury setback upon arrival and has struggled to force his way into the side under Michael Appleton.
The Galway-born forward has made just eight starts in his 33 appearances for the club, although he’s scored five goals this season for the U’s.
“Pat has done well, but for one reason or another he has not been able to get a run of games,” Appleton said. “It makes sense for him to go out, play matches at Stevenage and hopefully get a few goals as well.”
Hoban’s chances of breaking into the starting XI at the Kassam Stadium were reduced this afternoon with the arrival of Scotland international Chris Maguire and Zeli Ismail from Wolves.
The 24-year-old moves to a side currently in 19th position in League Two and could make his debut against Crawley Town this Saturday.
