IRISH HOCKEY’S REMARKABLE rise has been recognised with a second major international honour.
Craig Fulton has been voted men’s Coach of the Year by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), joining David Harte who was named Goalkeeper of the Year on Tuesday.
The South African native masterminded Ireland’s qualification for their first Olympic Games since 1908, ending a wait of more than 100 years.
FIH President Leandro Negre praised the influence of both Fulton and Great Britain assistant coach Karen Brown, who won the women’s award.
“Congratulations to Craig and Karen who have made a huge impact on the sport in 2016 [sic], both helping guide their teams to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games amongst some other key medal wins.”

Congratulations Sarah; superb gold
Great stuff.
Superb to see an Irish athlete competing and dominating in such an event, and breaking records into the bargain. Well done to her, her family, coaches, etc. They all play a part in such successes.
My only concern for her might be having to run in hot temperatures. It looks like the weather there suited her, given our poor Irish disposition towards heat! I hope she proves me wrong, regularly, if she keeps competing.
