Gary Neville slams Spanish press after 'false' claims of berating his Valencia players

The former Manchester United defender allegedly berated his players after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano but insists the reports are “absolutely not correct”.

GARY NEVILLE HAS hit out at a Spanish journalist after it was reported that he had told his players that they were “not fit to wear the shirt”.

Neville is alleged to have privately slammed his players after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Rayo Vallecano.

Ahead of Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash with Las Palmas, Neville asked in his press conference if the journalist was present, but when he learned that the reporter was not there, the Valencia boss replied: ”Surprise surprise.

“I accept anything that is said by the media but there is a line that is sometimes crossed.

“There was a report after the game that I said in the dressing room to the players that they are not fit to wear the shirt.

“This is wrong and it needs to be reported that it is wrong. It is absolutely not correct. There are a lot of young players and they do not need to be reading that.”

Eoin doyle does so much running up top he is never in the box when a cross comes in or is a couple of yards behind it, forrester is ridiculous and that could cost us dearly with his suspension, derry look bang average but some strike to win it, maher done well to keep the ball out in the first half goalmouth scramble pity he couldn’t do that in the peno shootout the other night

@ed: Off your head (bang average) what does that say about Pats… and the rest of the league. Derry better team tonight and great strike to win the game. RAWA

@kevbo: it says pats weren’t at it tonight but created the better chances like the scramble on the line, one off the post Derry more possession and yeah some strike thought a draw would have been the fair result, bang average last night I haven’t seen them outside of games against pats maybe they had an off night too but still got the 3 points so best of luck to ye rather you win the league than rovers but if you can win the cup to get us europe I’ll be happy

@kevbo: that’s what I said looked bang average last night unless you are saying that level of performance was the norm and you are impressed by that…bar the super strike for the goal the rest was bang average, problem for us was pats performance wasn’t even bang average which is disappointing after a good run
