EVERTON BOSS ROBERTO Martinez says there are “no developments” on Aiden McGeady’s future at the club, while reports suggest he may have to drop down to the Championship as he bids to gain regular first-team football.
Out of favour McGeady has yet to play in the Premier League this season for Everton, with the Toffees happy to let the 29-year-old winger leave the club.
“There are no developments,” Martinez told reporters.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of rumours. When there is something we can announce firmly to our fans, they’ll be first to know.”
Meanwhile, a report in The Daily Record claims a potential loan move back to former club Celtic is unlikely to happen, with the Scottish club unable to afford the winger’s £50,000-a-week-plus wages.
A source also told the paper that while McGeady is understood to have attracted suitors in the Championship, no Premier League club has currently put an offer on the table.
Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly willing to let Darron Gibson — another Irish international who has struggled for game time — leave the club in January.
Gibson’s expected departure will come despite regular central midfielder James McCarthy being ruled out for a month with a groin injury.
Both Gibson and McGeady will be mindful of the fact that regular first-team football will boost their chances of being selected for Ireland’s 23-man Euro 2016 squad in the summer.
