JASON SMYTH WAS too hot to handle as he defended his 100m title at the IPC World Championships in Doha.
The reigning Paralympic champion blitzed the field to take T13 gold in 10.62 seconds — just one-hundredth of a second outside the championship record.
Brazil’s Gustavo Araujo was second in 10.90 with Australia’s Chris Perris third in 10.96.
Smyth now faces another mad dash as he flies home to be with his wife, who is due to give birth tomorrow.
There was gold too for Michael McKillop who ran a season’s best of 2:01.31 to win the T38 800m title.
“This gold medal means a lot to me,” an emotional McKillop said.
“I will forever remember this day, not because of the time but because I never thought I would get to the start line after a really horrific injury.
It’s been so tough mentally but thanks to my family, and especially my girlfriend’s support, I am here and I am still unbeaten.
I really feel terrible for the families of those Irish Olympians. Not only did the Irish Olympic Committee probably do nothing for them to train and prepare for the games, while touting tickets meant for them, but they live it up right in your face. Hope the Brazilian government does what the cowards in Ireland can never, and that is dish out severe justice. Everyone here should email the Brazilian embassy here and demand that. People power!
