UFC INTERIM FEATHERWEIGHT champion Conor McGregor wants to fight Dustin Poirier in Saturdayโs UFC Fight Night 76 main event at Dublinโs 3Arena.
Poirier was due to fight Irish lightweight Joe Duffy in the headline bout until the UFC withdrew the Donegal native from the fight this evening due to a concussion he sustained in training.
As a result, itโs been confirmed that the flyweight bout between Louis Smolka and Dublinโs Paddy Holohan will now conclude the card.
However, McGregor was quick to take to social media to offer to fight Poirier instead โ a rematch of their September 2014 bout which โThe Notoriousโ won via first-round KO.
Unfortunately for McGregor fans, itโs highly unlikely to happen. Poirier has confirmed that he wonโt be facing a replacement opponent, having already turned down the chance to take on Antrimโs Norman Parke โ whoโs booked to fight Reza Madadi on Saturday.
Conor McGregor also used the opportunity to take a swipe at Joe Duffy, who was the last fighter to inflict defeat on the charismatic Dubliner way back in 2010.
People should get there full refund and buy the same tickets for half the price on donedeal
Donโt think anyone would want their refunds thenโฆ
how much did the tickets cost? does this mean both the original headliners withdrew?
Fair play Conor, but your getting stupid now. Itโs only a meter of time. Be intelligent my freind.
says the guy measuring time in distance.
It was never going to happen Connor stepping in, but itโs only a matter of time before it backfires. Iโm a fan of the man, but heโs not being managed properly.. One way or another if heโs not careful heโll be made a fool of.
Aldo for example I believe will take him. Hope not but honestly can see him being too much for McGregor.
heโll either beat him the first time or the second time
Doubt the UFC would let Conor fight Dustin but why in the world would Dustin turn that down. Conor is $$$
Because a lot of the fighters in MMA donโt do it just for the moneyโฆ they meticulously plan to fight a certain style of fighter and Dustin was prepared to take on Josephโs combined boxing/ground game, and while good, he is not as well rounded as Chad Mendes to step up to a different style at the last minuteโฆ
Completely agree with you but cash is king and if your in the UFC you want the money fight
Let crazy Conor fight Dustin again, Iโd give anything to see that! Dustin should take the fight
