TIPPERARY MINOR FOOTBALLER Aidan Buckley is shaving off his glorious beard after the All-Ireland final against Kerry on 20 September.
Proceeds are going to the Irish Cancer Society, in association with Buckley’s club St Patricks.
What started as a bit of fun with his teammates has become a smash hit and Buckley decided at the start of the year that his superb facial hair would remain untouched until Tipp were knocked out of the championship.
Aidan’s mother, Ann, was diagnosed with cancer four years ago and thankfully, she is making a full recovery.
A special Facebook page, Buckley’s Beard, explains that this is Aidan’s way of saying thanks to the Irish Cancer Society, while at the same time helping the fight against the disease.
In a recent post, Buckley has expressed his thanks for the support that his idea has received so far.
“Let me start by saying how blown away I am by the response,” he wrote.
“Just a quick word of thanks to all the people who have helped out in getting this off the ground, especially Colm and Michael from Mobile Magnet.
“Also to add that 50% of all donations are going to the Irish Cancer Society, the other 50% is for my home club St Patrick’s GAA.
“We are hoping to have a text donation service up and running very soon, I’ll keep ye posted on that.
“Progress report: the beard is growing well and will ready for harvesting.”
