NIALL CAREW HAS committed to managing the Sligo senior footballers for the next two years despite speculation that he may return to his native Kildare.
The Sligo county board have confirmed that the agreement was reached following a brief meeting with the managerial appointments committee on Monday
Selectors Ronan Sweeney and Keith Carty as well as the present support staff and backroom team will also remain in place.
Carew was first appointed as Sligo manager last October. He steered Sligo to a shock win over Roscommon win in the Connacht semi-final before suffering a heavy defeat against Mayo in last month’s provincial decider.
They exited the All-Ireland championship with a Round 4 defeat last Saturday week at the hands of Tyrone in Croke Park.
Previously Carew had been in charge of Waterford for two seasons and before that he spent three years as a selector with Kildare under Kieran McGeeney.
There is still speculation over the Kildare manager position with Jason Ryan’s future unclear but Carew is not out of the reckoning for a potential return.
