Danny Cipriani back in World Cup contention after being re-bailed

Out-half re-bailed until November following drink-driving arrest

ENGLAND OUT-HALF Danny Cipriani has been re-bailed until mid-November after being arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in June, meaning he will be available for England’s Rugby World Cup campaign.

The Sale Sharks out-half was involved in an early-hours collision in London on June 1 and was taken to a police station in the city before being released on bail.

Cipriani is in England’s training camp for the World Cup - with the selection to be cut to 31 later this month – and head coach Stuart Lancaster confirmed recently that Cipriani remained in his plans despite the incident.

“At the moment he’s not been charged with anything so as a consequence is in camp and training as everyone else is,” Lancaster said in June.

And Cipriani is set to be available for the competition on home soil, which runs from September 18 until October 31.

“A man arrested on suspicion of drink driving on Monday, 1 June, following reports of a collision in Imperial Road, SW6, has been re-bailed to a date in mid-November pending further enquiries,” confirmed a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.

Cipriani’s participation was in the World Cup squad had been in doubt after the incident, with Manu Tuilagi being suspended by the RFU in May for pleading guilty assault, while Dylan Hartley was also dropped from the squad for disciplinary reasons.

Very disappointing for his family especially the kids. I expect he will deal with it with integrity and hopefully he can make the most of his bad luck by enjoying his family time.
