MONAGHAN FOOTBALLER SHANE Duffy has written his name into the history books by claiming the 2011 MBNA Kick Fada title, managing a kick of a staggering 60m in high winds.
Duffy emerged strongest out of a group of 20 inter-county players, with the Magheracloone player beating competition from Paul Hearty (Crossmaglen Rangers in Armagh) and Paul Flood (Maynooth in Kildare).
Irene Munnelly from St. Ultan’s in Meath won the Ladies’ title.
The MBNA Kick Fada determines who is the longest and most accurate kicker of a Gaelic football in Ireland. Competitors must kick the ball over the bar through specific competition goalposts twice the width of conventional goal sizes. The competition took place at Bray Emmets GAA Club, Co Wicklow.
