THE CLARE COUNTY Board has confirmed that Davy Fitzgerald will remain on as senior hurling manager for next year.
The Banner were dumped out of the All-Ireland senior hurling championship by Cork over the weekend, having suffered relegation to Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League earlier this year.
Fitzgerald, who has been in the job since 2011, signed a three-year contract after winning the All-Ireland title in 2013, before agreeing a one-year extension 12 months ago. And he will stay on as manager of the senior panel for 2016, it was confirmed today.
Clare’s senior football boss Colm Collins will be retain his role. They went out of the All-Ireland championship after losing to Longford in their Round 2A qualifier earlier this month.
“The Clare County Board welcomes and fully supports the commitments received from both managers and looks forward to their review of their respective 2015 campaigns as well as an outline of their plans for 2016,” the statement reads.
I am delighted that Colm and Davy are committed to remaining in their respective positions for 2016,” added Michael McDonagh Chairman of the Clare County Board.
“While everyone associated with Clare GAA is disappointed with the progress of both teams during 2015, we firmly believe that they are better things in store, and both Colm and Davy are the right people to lead their teams forward.”
That is truly amazing. With the results of the last two years and just one championship win in that time and still keep your job. WTF is going on in Clare ? If Leitrim or Kerry had a spell like that in hurling they would sack their manager but for a hurling county like Clare to accept this is absolutely baffling. Plus is Davy Fitz had any regard for Clare hurling then the decent thing to do would be to step down.
Mind boggling, most of us want him gone but of course with daddy as one of the top boys the clowns in the county board decide to keep him on. The best thing for Clare hurling is if both daddy and junior FItz are gone from the scene but there are more important things in some people’s minds €€€!
Keep him there paul. The longer he there da more he’ll f**k em up.
It will be interesting to see if Paul Kinnerk will make a difference next year when he returns as Clare were poor tactically this year. Presume also this means that Podge will be playing football again with his Dad staying on as football manager.
The talent that’s going to be wasted with him kept on is truly mind boggling !!!
Poor clare
Who said he was going back to Clare .
Paul Kinnerk!
I still think new voices needed but for now the very best of luck to the u 21s tomorrow night. Now is your time lads
Waterford, Limerick, Cork and Tipp like this
As a Limerick man we need to be worrying bout TJ and never mind what Clare and the Fitzies are up to.
From an entertainment point of view this is great news. If I was a Clare supporter I’d be less happy
Davy won’t step down either. He was a pig headed player and now he’s a pig headed manager.
