KR Reykjavík 2-1 Cork City (KR go through 3-2 on aggregate)
CORK CITY ENDURED A heartbreaking loss in the Europa League tonight, as they were beaten 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate after extra-time against KR Reykjavík.
The visitors took the lead through Mark O’Sullivan’s deflected strike on 13 minutes, and were given a further boost just before half-time when Skuli Fridgeirssen was sent off after he picked up a second booking.
However, the hosts equalised through Palmi Rafn Palmason with 15 minutes remaining to bring the tie to extra-time.
And it was Jacob Schoop who broke Cork hearts on 98 minutes, coolly taking it around Mark McNulty before slotting home the winner.
The result means that just two Irish sides remain in the Europa League, with UCD and Pat’s experiencing mixed fortunes today, coupled with Shamrock Rovers’ comfortable win earlier in the week.
