AIDAN O’SHEA PLAYED a key role as Mayo booked their place in another Connacht senior football final this afternoon.
The reigning provincial champions were 1-15 to 2-8 winners over neighbours Galway in Salthill. They’ll now face Roscommon or Sligo in the decider.
O’Shea chipped in with a point and also had a hand in his side’s goal. The Breaffy man’s performance earned him the man-of-the match award this evening on The Sunday Game.
Panellists Dermot Earley, Tomás Ó Sé and Ciaran Whelan gave O’Shea the nod ahead of his Mayo team-mate Keith Higgins and Galway’s Gary Sice.
Earley said: “We went for the powerhouse, Aidan O’Shea. He had a fantastic game from start to finish and was the difference really in the end for the Mayo victory.”
Man-of-the-match honours from Donegal’s convincing Ulster quarter-final defeat of Armagh went to Michael Murphy.
The Glenswilly forward kicked five points as the 2012 All-Ireland champions recorded a 2-11 to 0-8 win at the Athletic Grounds.
Murphy saw off competition from Donegal colleagues Ryan McHugh and Neil Gallagher in receiving the seal of approval from the panel on The Sunday Game.
“Michael Murphy, he was excellent off placed-balls but also his leadership throughout for the 70 minutes of this game, he was the main man,” said Dermot Earley.
