CATHAL PENDRED PICKED up his fourth consecutive Ultimate Fighting Championship win last night but he wasn’t in the best of form afterwards.
Pendred defeated Augusto Montano by unanimous decision at UFC 188 but it was a largely forgettable contest, with the Irishman’s opponent clearly reluctant to engage.
Montano subsequently received a warning from referee Herb Dean and although Pendred went close to finishing the fight via submission in the second round, he had to settle for securing the win via the judges’ scorecards.
When Pendred spoke to reporters after the fight in Mexico City, he admitted to being disappointed with his own performance and expressed his anger at his opponent’s approach.
“I felt so frustrated,” Pendred said. “At one stage I nearly felt like just telling the referee to stop the fight. When we were engaged there was just nothing happening. He was just stalling it and I just couldn’t get it going. It was just so frustrating.”
