DAVY FITZGERALD IS the master of using his post-match interviews to say everything while saying nothing.
There was no hiding his disappointment after Clare’s one-point defeat to Limerick in Semple Stadium.
“It’s hard to take,” Davy said. “I don’t think we deserved to lose that.”
Both sides finished with 14 men after Patrick Donnellan and Seanie Tobin were sent off.
And there was confusion at the final whistle after referee Colm Lyons signalled for just one additional minute with Clare chasing an equaliser.
When asked by RTÉ’s Clare McNamara to expand on his comments, Fitzgerald declined.
“Clare, you’re not going to draw me on anything. Just well done to Limerick.
I’ve no comment to make on anything. You have a look at all the facts. I have no comment to make.
“I’m very, very, very proud of the Clare team and supporters today. They are absolutely immense, so they are, and I’m not going to concentrate on anything else whatsoever.
“I’m really proud of my team. Six points down, they showed some character, but I am 100% certain we did not deserve to lose that game. I’m 100% certain of that.”
“What do you think cost you the game then,” McNamara asked.
“I won’t go into that, I won’t go into that,” Fitzgerald said.
I’d say it’s pretty easy, if you analyse the stats of the game, you’ll know why we lost the game.
“Did you think you were unfairly treated by the officials?” McNamara continued.
“Clare, I think it’s very unfair to put me in that position,” he said.
“All I said is fair play to Limerick and well done. I’m not getting into that.
I don’t feel we deserved to lose that game so I don’t.
