IT’S FAIR TO say things didn’t exactly go as expected for Fernando Torres following his big-money move from Liverpool to Chelsea.
The striker often looked short of confidence at Stamford Bridge and was frequently criticised by Jose Mourinho, before eventually being sold by the Blues.
However, following a disappointing spell at Milan, he now appears to have rediscovered some of his old form at Atletico Madrid, as the clip below illustrates.

Chelsea started sucking the soul out of football when abromovich took over, now they’re sucking the soul out of the footballers. Chelsea are the dementors of the premier league.
Man City just remind me of the aliens from space jam who stole the talent from the basketballers.
Lads cop on, all the top clubs are purely about the money and the top players are too. Chelsea are no worse than man city or man utd even, united are paying falcao 300k to sit on the bench. When it comes to the top football teams there is no moral high ground, all the clubs Have the same principles or lack of.
Until an oil rich billionaire takes over liverpool, i’m going to have a problem with other clubs having one.
Their hardly paying Falcao to sit on the bench , I’m sure they’d happier if he was playing week in week out
He’s not good enough to play week in week out. United have a young James Wilson who’s probably dying to get a proper run in the team, but instead he’s playing an over paid has-been who simply isn’t good enough anymore. Van gaal need to put a little faith in James, in my opinion.
I was at Atletico’s home game against Elche last Saturday. We were talking about Torres before the game, me saying that in his early years I thought he was overhyped beyond belief but that I was proved wrong by that unbelievable season at Liverpool, but then asking if reverted to type or was Chelsea just the wrong club. The 90 mins I saw of him on Saturday didn’t answer the question (not that 90 minutes against anyone ever would!!) but he snatched at presentable chances, as did Greismann once or twice before the latter scored two. However, Torres’ pace, especially over short distances, strength and all round athleticism and agility was really noticeable. He really is a thoroughbred athlete. As my mate and I were in Madrid for an athletics event we both really appreciated that aspect.
As for all clubs being about money, Atletico last Saturday was something to behold. Kids, parents, grandparents all together at what felt like a very community centred club that remains close to its fans. There really is a genuine mutual love-in between fans and the team. We only learnt after that it was annual “family day”, but still It painted a very positive image of the club to this tourist.
Yea peter I think atlecti are probably one of the exceptions to what I was saying. Perhaps Dortmund too. What simeone achieved last year was incredible.
Chelsea may have supported him financially, but a club so devoid of history, soul, compassion and integrity was never going to be a good fit for Torres, nor Shevchenko previously.
