IF TONY MCCOY wins the Aintree Grand National next month it will be the last time racegoers see the legendary jockey in action.
However, even if he doesn’t manage a second career win in the famous race, he has confirmed he will definitely not be riding at the Punchestown Festival this year.
McCoy also said it is “very likely” he will ride Shutthefrontdoor at Aintree in the Grand National, despite speculation he may opt for Cause of Causes after the latter won at Cheltenham this month.
Speaking to The Times, McCoy said:
“I’m very likely to ride Shutthefrontdoor but I won’t commit finally until close to declaration time – there is plenty of time yet for something to go wrong.
“If I don’t win it, I’ll go on until Sandown (25 April). It’s the end of the British season and they have been good enough to name a race after me (the AP McCoy Celebration Chase).
“I did have some thoughts about Punchestown — the following week — but I definitely won’t be riding there. If I did that, I might just as well carry on and I won’t be doing that.”
