Murray Kinsella reports from Murrayfield
THERE WERE JUBILANT scenes in Murrayfield as Joe Schmidt’s Ireland lifted the Six Nations trophy for the second consecutive year.
Captain Paul O’Connell and his teammates were presented with the trophy in front of around 10,000 Irish supporters, who stayed behind following the win against Scotland earlier in the day and lived every moment of England’s clash with France.
Those who stuck around were rewarded for their support as O’Connell and co. drenched each other in champagne and danced around the Murrayfield turf, the joy and relief after an intense eight-week campaign bursting out.
Simon Zebo and other members of the squad who were not involved in the match day squad were present on the pitch for the celebrations as U2′s ‘Beautiful Day’ and The Dubliner’s ‘Irish Rover’ blasted around the stadium.
Zebo earned top marks for his dance moves, as a few of the forwards showed signs of their battle scars with more rigid movement.
The party will last into the early hours of Sunday morning around Edinburgh.
