OFFALY HURLING CAPTAIN Dan Currams has blasted critics of the county’s hurling setup as ‘cowards behind the computer screens’ and urged supporters to get behind the team.

Brian Whelehan’s team got their Allianz Division 1B hurling league off to a fine start on Saturday night with a 1-24 to 0-23 victory over Laois in Portlaoise.

It came on the back of a desperately disappointing 2014 championship campaign that saw them lose by 26 points in Leinster to Kilkenny and then ship a 17-point defeat to Tipperary in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

The team has come in for major criticism which was exacerbated by another heavy loss to Galway in the Walsh Cup last month.

But Kilcormac-Killoughey club man Currams has defended the team when speaking to Midlands 103 as they prepare to host Wexford next Sunday in Tullamore in Division 1B.

“There’s some people and the abuse, the slander that they’re giving boys is an absolute disgrace.

They’d be better off to get behind this bunch of lads, they’re training hard. I’ve seen some things being said and it’s just a joke to be honest. Cowards behind the computer screens and this and that.”
