MANCHESTER CITY ARE on high alert after Yaya Toure limped out of Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations group decider against Cameroon on Wednesday evening.
The midfielder required treatment following a challenge from Stephane Mbia but the 31-year-old was limping and clutching his hamstring as he left the pitch to be replaced by Cheick Doukoure in the 82nd minute.
Defeat for Ivory Coast would have raised the possibility of both Toure and Wilfried Bony returning in time to feature in City’s Premier League crunch clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
But Herve Renard’s men triumphed 1-0 courtesy of a Max Gradel strike in the 35th minute to reach the last eight of a tournament they are trying to win for the first time since 1992.
The Elephants will now face Algeria in Malabo on Sunday for a place in the semi-finals.
