SEAGULLS, EH? IF it’s not senators trying to ban them, or kids having their ice creams robbed by them, they’re inevitably turning up at cricket grounds and getting in everyone’s way.
Sometimes they get too close to the action, as was the case in the Big Bash Twenty20 clash between the Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers when 30,000 people gasped in horror when the Schorchers’ Adam Voges smashed a shot towards the boundary.
It looked a certain four until it hit an unsuspecting seagull wandering around the Melbourne Cricket Ground pitch.
Melbourne fielder Rob Quiney was quickly on the scene and suggested the unfortunate bird was now an ex-seagull.
However, after Quiney took the bird to the boundary – we assume to be buried – a miracle occurred and the resurrected gull was given a standing ovation by the Melbourne crowd.
