CHAMPIONSHIP TOP SCORER Daryl Murphy took his tally to 17 as Ipswich beat Charlton to finish the year on a high.
Mick McCarthy’s side moved back to within a point of league leaders Bournemouth with a 3-0 win at Portman Road on Tuesday.
Defender Tommy Smith gave the hosts the lead in the first half before Murphy nipped in ahead of Republic of Ireland team-mate David McGoldrick to head into an empty net shortly before the hour mark.
Murphy made sure there were no hard feelings though and set up McGoldrick for Ipswich’s third on the stroke of full-time — the striker’s seventh of the season.
Next up for Ipswich: a trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton in the FA Cup Third Round on Sunday afternoon.
