Loughmore-Castleiney 2-7
Cahir 1-10
THIS WEEK – WHILE most GAA players will look forward to unwinding for Christmas before preparations for the 2015 season begin in earnest – the footballers of Loughmore-Castleiney and Cahir will have to prepare for a rematch after the last GAA county senior final of the year ended in a draw.
1500 people turned up to Leahy Park in Cashel as holders Loughmore-Castleiney came from behind late on to send the Tipperary SFC final to a replay on St. Stephen’s Day.
Cahir had much the better start to the game with Robbie Costigan’s goal giving the 2003 champions a 1-2 to 0-1 lead.
However, Loughmore-Castleiney fought back to trail by just a point at the break – 2-2 to 1-6 – after both Cian Hennessy and Liam McGrath raised green flags.
With scoring at a premium in the second half, the defending champions pointed with just minutes remaining to extend the long-running championship.
While the original replay date was set for next Sunday, Tipperary county board announced this evening the game had been moved to St. Stephen’s Day instead:
