DEFENDING CHAMPIONS MOOREFIELD will once again contest the Kildare senior football championship final after a two point win over Celbridge in Newbridge this afternoon.
However, Celbridge only have themselves to blame after shooting no fewer than 17 wides after seven-times winners Moorefield got off to the best possible start when Niall Hurley Lynch found the back of the net after just 15 seconds.
Scores from Adam Tyrell, Eanna O’Connor and Ciaran Kelly stretched that lead to six points after eight minutes and it would take the 2008 winners ten minutes to trouble the umpires for the first time.
They were back within three points at half-time (1-5 to 1-2) but, though the sides were briefly level after 47 minutes, it was Moorefield who kicked on with Tyrrell (0-4 for the day) and Kelly kicking the crucial scores.
In the second semi-final 2011 champions Athy had their championship dream ended by an impressive Sarsfields team.
Athy led at the interval 0-6 to 0-5, although they never recovered from two goals in two minutes in the opening ten minutes of the second half. The two goals coming from Sean Dempsey and minor starlet Ben McCormack.
