Title: Ceasefire Massacre
Released: 2014
Director: Alex Gibney
Plot: A film that examines the fatal shootings that overshadowed one of Ireland’s greatest sporting achievements. On the same night that Jack Charlton’s Irish team beat Italy at the 94 World Cup (20 years ago this week), a UVF attack on a small pub in Loughinisland resulted in the deaths of several innocent victims, who had been peacefully watching the game prior to the arrival of the gunmen. Gibney’s ESPN 30 for 30 documentary assesses the impact of the tragedy on the country and asks how and why the crime remains unsolved to this day.
