Round-Up: 14-man Westmeath shock Antrim with win in Leinster SHC opener

WESTMEATH BAGGED A stunning win over Antrim in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday.

Antrim had held a lead of 0-09 to 0-03, thanks to a hat-trick of points from both Liam Watson and Shane McNaughton, but the home side came back with a bang in the second half.

An eight point tally from man of the match Niall O’Brien guided the Lake men to the win as they clawed back the score to 0-11 each.

Antrim retook the lead but Westmeath grabbed the final three scores of the game to seal a famous and brilliant win.

Their achievement was made all the more impressive by the fact that they had Conor Jordan sent off for a second yellow card in the 30th minute.

Elsewhere, in the Christy Ring Cup, quarter-finals, London squeezed out Derry by two points, the Exiles winning 3-11 to 1-15.

A goal for Meath made all the difference as they got the better of Kildare 1-16 to 0-16.

In the Nicky Rackard Cup, Louth swept to an impressive 3-12 to 1-9 win over Sligo, while Roscommon beat Monaghan 2-19 to 1-11 in Athleague.
