Cork 2-14
Tyrone 0-20
CORK BOOKED THEIR place in the semi-finals of Division 1 of the football league this afternoon despite Tyrone hauling them back to clinch a draw in Páirc Uí Rinn.
Late points by Sean Cavanagh, Kyle Coney and Ronan O’Neill ensured Mickey Harte’s side gained parity. Tyrone are now still in the running for a league semi-final place ahead of next Sunday’s home tie against Dublin.
Tyrone had made the early running and were ahead by 0-12 to 1-5 at the break. Coney, who struck eight points from play overall, raised six white flags in the first-half. Cork were unable to cope with the threat of him and Darren McCurry as they fell four points behind at the midway mark.
Paul Kerrigan found the net after five minutes to keep Cork in the hunt as he slalomed through the Tyrone rearguard and finished off his left. Brian Hurley’s point taking put Cork in the ascendancy at one stage but they conceded the last five points of the opening period.
Cork opened the second-half brightly with Hurley, John O’Rourke, John Hayes and substitute Colm O’Neill bringing them level at 1-10 to 0-13. Then came Cork’s second goal with O’Neill crashing to the net after fine work by Patrick Kelly and Andrew O’Sullivan.
Cork continued to hold sway and had stretched their lead to 2-13 to 0-15 through substitutes Colm O’Driscoll and Barry O’Driscoll. But it was Tyrone who finished powerfully to gain a share of the spoils.
