TIPPERARY ARE TOP of the Division 4 football league table tonight after seeing off Antrim by 3-20 to 2-17 today in Semple Stadium.
Peter Creedon’s side are on the brink of promotion after the result and will ensure they will play Division 3 football next spring if they can beat Leitrim away from home in their next outing.
Barry Grogan hit 2-7 and Conor Sweeney added 1-7 as Tipperary, who led by 2-9 to 1-6 at half-time, secured a six-point win. Grogan and Sweeney both raised green flags just before half-time with Brian Neeson, who struck 2-8 overall, finding the net for Antrim.
The crucial third goal arrived for Tipperary in the 51st minute when Grogan scored a penalty after Donagh Leahy had been fouled. Niall McKeever received a black card for Antrim as did Benny Hasson.
Meanwhile, Wicklow remain in the hunt for promotion after securing a massive 1-25 to 1-11 victory against Carlow.
The hosts slumped to a 14-point defeat as Harry Murphy’s visitors ran riot. Wicklow led by 0-12 to 0-5 at half-time and while Paul Broderick hauled Carlow back into contention with a 41st minute goal, Seanie Furlong’s late strike capped a profitable afternoon for the Garden County.
