TIPPERARY AND UL won out in today’s Munster hurling clashes at the preliminary round stage of the Waterford Crystal Cup.
Tipperary were far too strong for the students of Limerick IT by 3-20 to 0-5 at McDonagh Park in Nenagh. They lead 2-8 to 0-1 after a dominant first-half display with Shane Bourke finding the net in the 5th minute and then Seamus Callanan hit a goal from a penalty ten minutes later.
Eamonn O’Shea’s side maintained their dominance in the second-half with Lar Corbett rounding off their victory by hitting the third goal with just a few minutes remaining. They will travel to Tralee to face Kerry in next weekend’s quarter-final tie.
Elsewhere third-level outfit UL enjoyed a successful trip to Carriganore as they defeated Waterford by 1-11 to 0-10. Waterford lead by 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval with Shane O’Sullivan catching the eye in the scoring stakes.
But UL bounced back in the second-half with Galway’s Jonathan Glynn grabbing the crucial goal that enabled to surge clear on the scoreboard. UL, managed by Clare defensive great Brian Lohan, had four points to spare at the final whistle and they will take on Waterford IT next week.
