AUSTRALIA ARRIVED AT the Twickenham Stoop last night, intent on avenging their 2003 World Cup final defeat to England.
Both countries met in a legends encounter but, this time out, England could not rely on the kicking skills of outhalf Jonny Wilkinson to get them over the line. It mattered not — they had retired hooker Steve Thompson.
Thompson, who quit the game in 2007 and again in 2011 with neck injuries, returned to the rugby field to score the greatest try of his rugby career in 17 — 12 win. Check it out:

Scorched…?
“Disclaimer: No blades of grass were hurt in the scoring of this try” (until he fell over…)
lol… ;-)
Who is the Aussie no. 14 who couldn’t catch an aging hooker!
The Fla said it best.
“Thompson ya fat c%#t.
Is now and ever shall be.
Actually if you asked Fla face to face what he thought of Thompson as a person his reaction would be very different. What players say and do on a rugby pitch doesn’t always accurately represent who they are off the pitch.
Could not agree more, Thompson top class player and a true gent. Well respected in rugby circles.
That step was brilliant. Typical fat front row maneuver. This is probably the only time I’ve seen it work though.
If memory serves, he did something very similar off a lineout in his last game against Ireland. Great story for a guy who looked like it was all over for too young.
That game looks more suited to Lote Tuquiri
Aussie winger will have to have his wingers licence revoked. Stepped and burned on the outside by a fat hooker. For shame.
