FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED manager Alex Ferguson has given his first interview to MUTV since stepping down from his coaching role last season.
The Scot spoke about missing the day-to-day aspect of managing the club and predicted a successful season for United if Nemanja Vidic could stay fit and Robin van Persie could keep scoring. He also praised Wayne Rooney for rediscovering his energy and purpose since the season began and the transfer window closed.
He enjoyed United’s win over Swansea and Bayer Leverkusen but described the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, at Anfield, as agony to watch. “We were going there over the years, 20 times maybe, and we’ve played worse than [United] did that day and won.”
Watch the full interview here, during which Fergie dismisses suggestions that he ever had an influence over Premier League referee Mark Halsey.
