A NEW DOCUMENTARY showing on TG4 is set to explore the alleged curse put on the Mayo fooball team by a priest in 1951.
Mayo God Help Us, which will be broadcast at 8pm this Sunday, will look at the side’s fortunes over the years, with a particular emphasis on their recent exploits.
Among the interviewees are players from the Team of ’51, in addition to fans, priests and pundits.
The supposed curse relates to an incident in 1951, when the victorious side failed to be respectful towards a funeral, as they were passing through Foxford on their way home.
According to legend, the local priest cursed the team so they would not win another All-Ireland in all of the players’ lifetime.
And of course, Mayo have failed to lift the trophy since.

Very likeable character. Good luck against the Welsh.
Him and Lowe are a sports journalist’s dream.
Always give good interviews and are not as reserved ( dare I say boring!) as the rest of the Irish team. I see them both being strong presences in the Netflix documentary series
Met his dad after the connacht game rocking a fake fur coat. Not right Mac…
Needs to having a antique sheep skin…
Lovely guy by the way…
Lowe, Hansen, Aki, Gibson park ,bealham, all not Irish
@Al Byrne: but they all play for Ireland so what’s your point?
