IT’S THE CLUB that could turn the golf world upside down — but Joe Canning says the ‘Happy Gilmore’ putter needs a bit more work before it makes it to the big time.
Canning got people talking when he tweeted a photo of this modified wooden putter, fashioned from a hurl by his brother Ivan.

“We had the golf classic last week and [Ivan] said he’d do it for the craic,” he explained yesterday.
“He doesn’t really play that often as you could tell by the golf bag. He just did it for the craic and pulled it out on the 18th green for everyone in the golf club to see.”
European Tour pro Shane Lowry declared it ‘brilliant’ but Canning says it still needs improving before he would put it in his bag for a round.
“He needs a bit of lead in the head of it to become any better,” he joked. “Hopefully [Lowry] might use it in the Irish Open in a few weeks.”
