One more year! Zlatan Ibrahimovic is staying at Man United for a second season

The Swedish striker has scored six goals in 11 Premier League appearances this term.

JOSE MOURINHO HAS confirmed Manchester United have taken up the option to extend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract for a second season.

The 35-year-old striker initially moved to Old Trafford on a one-year deal last summer but will now remain at the club for the 2017/18 campaign.

“Zlatan’s situation is simple,” Mourinho said at a press conference ahead of United’s Europa League clash with Feyenoord.

“He has one plus one. We are happy with him. We are going to execute the option of a second season. After that he can do what he wants.”

Mourinho previously spent a season working with Ibrahimovic at Inter Milan, where the pair won the 2008-09 Serie A title together.

Ibrahimovic, who has won 11 league titles in four countries, has scored eight goals in his 17 United appearances to date.

The charismatic Swede went off the boil after scoring five goals in his first five games, but recently ended a six-game Premier League scoring drought with a brace in a 3-1 win at Swansea City.

He missed United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal last Saturday through suspension.

“For the moment we haven’t had any discussions. I have a contract that says one plus one so I feel good, I feel fresh, I feel in shape and physically if I feel like now, probably it will be a second year,” he said.

“I want to be realistic with myself and if I’m here I want to be able to perform like I can do and not waste time. But like it is now, probably yes, but I need discussions we haven’t had.

“The second year goes automatic after one – so that is no word from me or no word from them. It goes automatic after certain things so if it continues like this, yes.”
