Laois man Zach Tuohy becomes fifth GAA recruit to play 100 Australian Football League games

Tuohy achieved the feat in Melbourne this morning.

LAOIS NATIVE ZACH Tuohy became only the fifth GAA recruit to play 100 games in the Australian Football League when he lined out for Carlton today against the Sydney Swans.

Unfortunately Tuohy didn’t enjoy victory on this momentous appearance as Carlton lost out 131-71 against Sydney Swans in their Round 2 game at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.

It was still a major milestone for Tuohy to reach as he followed in the footsteps of Jim Stynes, Tadhg Kennelly, Sean Wight and Pearce Hanley.

AFL Appearances

  • Jim Stynes (Dublin) – 264
  • Tadhg Kennelly (Kerry) – 197
  • Sean Wight (Kerry) – 150
  • Pearce Hanley (Mayo) – 108
  • Zach Tuohy (Laois) – 100

Tuohy initially joined Carlton as an International Rookie in the 2010 draft selection. Since then he has become an established member of their side.

Last season he was named in the AFL Coaches’ Association’s All-Australian Team despite Carlton struggling as they finished bottom of the 2015 AFL ladder.
