Football legend Xavi wins over €225,000 in Qatari bank's prize draw

It’s about time something went right for him.

FORMER BARCELONA AND Spain star Xavi Hernandez, a ‘noted footballer’ per Qatar’s daily newspaper The Peninsula, has won one million Qatari riyal (€227,750) in a prize draw carried out by his bank.

The draw event took place at Doha Bank’s Mall of Qatar branch and was streamed live from Doha Bank’s Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube accounts.

Xavi was announced the winner-in-chief of the Al Dana Savings Scheme campaign for June, in what was the third draw of its kind this year.

The Spaniard said of his chance victory: “Winning the QR1 million cash prize was an unexpected but welcome surprise. I had opened my account at Doha Bank on 5 December 2016, as I had taken interest in the Al Dana programme after hearing about how Doha Bank encourages their customers to save money, and get a chance to become millionaires, as well as the opportunity to win other cash prizes.

“I started to invest with the Al Dana Savings programme, aiming to win the QR1 million. Today, I can say that I’m happy that I opened an Al Dana Savings account and invested my savings. I would like to thank Doha Bank for this opportunity and I wish the same luck unto the other Al Dana customers in the future.”

The second-largest prize of QR 100,000 was awarded to M Al Majid, while 15 additional winners received QR10,000 each.

The Al Dana Savings Scheme campaign began 12 years ago, and was designed to cultivate a ‘savings culture’ among Qatari residents.
