Second row rampage tops the list of best tries from the WRWC opening day in Dublin

The USA’s Kris Thomas also made the list thanks to a powerful tackle-busting finish against Italy.

OUR OWN PERSONAL favourite try from the first day of the World Cup didn’t make it in World Rugby’s top five…

… but there was still plenty to like about the list.

Aside from the excellent finishes of Australia’s Mahalia Murphy and the USA’s Kris Thomas, the scores in the clip below all owe a huge debt to the player giving up the try assist rather than the woman who touches down.

The top try of the day came from Caroline Boujard, but it is the powerful gallop up-field from second row Lenaig Corson that makes it one for the highlight reel – but also a valuable lesson in the merits of tackling low.

Also delivering gift-wrapped tries were Katy McLean with a superb cross-field kick for Kay Wilson and the electric long-way-round sprint from New Zealand’s Portia Woodman ahead of Selica Winiata’s eighth minute try.

Which was your favourite try of the 63 scored on day one?
